Disclaimer, kinda

Here you can find about Transryu's and my "Costume Shop" story setting and see all the stories and pictures that go with it.  Everything will be organized into chronological order(according to the story's time line), along with credit to any outside authors/artists who were involved in their creation.

Oh, and btw...I've noticed that some people are creating their own stories with a slightly modified version of this setting.  I know that this thing isn't completely original (it has some similarities to "spells 'r' us" for example, and I've seen costume tf like stories before I started this setting), but if you read the stories and then decide to write a random story with a costume shop run by a wizard and stocked with living costumes, We'd appreciate it if you at least mentioned where you got the idea from.  If you actually take plot elements from the setting without giving credit though, I WILL try to have the admins remove your stories.

I didn't want to do  this, but I feel that it is necessary to list people who have plagiarized the setting at one time or another.  This is only for major offenders, people who mimic some of the ideas so closely that you can get their stories confused as part of my setting.  I'm just doing this because I don't want to hear someone say "hey, did you get your ideas from this person" when he stole them from me. I guess I'll also blank out part of the names so that you can't search them out, but you'll know who I'm talking about if you even run into him.  You can be removed from this list just by giving proper credit for where your ideas are coming from:
Sha****ugia2** (Currently banned from DA for theft)

Thanks,
Transryu, Alimar

About the Setting

The costume shop series basically started off as an excuse of mine to write about and draw costume transformations, since I like to have
some kind of story behind my drawings.  These tfs involve living costumes that envelope a suitable person and forcibly transform the
him into the creature that it represents by fusing with him and reshaping his body.  However, soon one story became two, and then other people starting writing....lol.

The costumes were created by the wizard Drethan, who is studying the power of wishes and desire, which are the fuel for the transformations.  Just so you know, the magic in this story is D&D style, he casts spells through his own powers and only his own powers.  I don't want demons and spirits getting involved.  Anyway, he isn't the one who originally designed the costumes, he actually doesn't quite understand how they work, but believes that if he can figure it out that he could gain great power.  In order to test the costumes he runs a costume shop named "The Second Identity".  Basically, he sells normal (but very high quality costumes) to attract people there while waiting until he finds suitable victims for the transforming ones. When he senses a someone who is interested enough in a specific creature, he gives a costume over and sees what happens.  Drethan has a "be careful of what you wish for" policy for when it comes to dealing with the people who get transformed by his costumes, since in most cases they only work on someone who wanted to become that creature in the first place.  He has been starting to have success on making costumes that work on almost anyone however, since most people have at least some interest in any given creature....

So far Drethan has had unpredictable results with how the costumes turn out.  This is because the costumes have living essence infused into them.  It is nearly impossible to know how the essence will form, and that combined with their "food" being the dreams and desires of people who love the creatures the costumes are modeled after, it is almost impossible to predict how they will work.  There are even cases were they have side effects, which can occur after a costume is worn too many times or for too long...or even after the first time it is worn in some cases.  These can range from being perminantly transformed, developing a bond with the suit's mind, becoming addicted/reliant on it and having to wear the costume every few days, or who knows what else.

It is important to note that by "living essence" I'm not talking about Drethan putting souls into the costumes, I'm not messing with spiritual stuff XD.  I guess it is just something that I'm making up so that I can make the costumes alive without them having animal souls stuffed into them.  If the things have any soul at all, it is something that they developed on their own from their own essence.

Some of the costumes can transform almost anyone as long as the person has some level of desire to be the creature they represent, while most only work on people who have an obsession with the creature. Generally, the costumes that require a stronger desire from their wearer are far more powerful than the others, and even grant powers to their wearers.  Also, some while some only transform people, most seem to have some level of built in animal instincts that they act upon and try to impress upon the wearer, while others have a mind of their own.  They all seem to have some level of intellegence, but true awareness is uncommon.  Drethan usually tries to keep the aware ones out of people's reach since they can be dangerous.  However, often curiosity gets the better of him, and in other cases he just doesn't realize that a mind has formed within a costume until it is too late.

As for what the costumes are like, they tend to look very much like the empty skin of the animals they are modeled after, though sometimes they will have "stuffed" parts (ie tails) rather than empty ones. Generally, the odd matrial that they are made of is somewhere in between skin-like and rubbery.  A costume based upon a furry creature such as a wolf would have what looks like real fur on the outside. They are sexless(so don't get any transgender ideas), but adopt the gender of their wearers.  For the ones with some level of intelligence, their main goal is to find a wearer since it makes them feel complete.  Having a regular host will also allow them to stay active.  Some will perminantly bond with and transform people, while others will let them go back to being human after a period of time.

So far it seems that they can be modeled after any real animal or fantasy creature.  As long as the creature exists in someone's mind, a costume can be modeled after it and given an essence to match it. This means that it can also be modeled after someone's persona, but in that case only that specific person could wear it.  They cannot be modeled after any specific real creature (such as a specific dragon or pet), but can be a certain type of creature (a generic ice dragon).  A costume based upon a humanoid (such as a fairy or elf) wouldn't work, since they are too much like the humans that are supposed to wear the costumes.  ;Plus it would get creepy.  Demon costumes simply are a no no, Drethan may be a wizard but he doesn't mess with demons.

For those of you who want to write a
story

The Costume Shop setting has now been transferred to my account. It is still open. If any of you writers want your story published through me. Send me a note.

However, just because this is an open setting now doesn't mean you can do whatever you want in it.  First, give credit to Transryu, the creator of the setting. And also give credit to Alimar, his successor.  Second, follow the basic rules of the setting, ESPECIALLY the 'No Perverted Content' rules.  Meaning, no adult or transgender stuff.  Also, be respectful and don't do anything stupid like killing off Drethan or making him act in a way inconsistent with the kind of person he is.  More guidelines are below.

People who write especially good stories that follow the guidelines are likely to be listed in this journal for all to see. If you need me to check your stories for consistency or whatever else you need. Feel free to ask me. Though it may take time, since I have other things like work and school to consider.

A suggestion list for getting your story listed as a guest story, along with a few notes about how certain things work.

-Please read this journal and my stories to make sure you understand how the setting works before you start!

-Make sure your story is readable and uses complete sentences.  I'm not asking for college level writing, but I'm not going to list stories that are impossible to follow.

-Nothing adult, fetishy, overly sensual, transgender, or satanic (no demon costumes) and so on. If I read anything similar to this, the story will be completely rejected until a revision can be made.

-No world or setting changing events, these would create inconsistencies.  It is best if your story is one that could happen without affecting the main ones.

-No overly dark/emo stories please.  Examples: everyone in the world seems to be making the main character's life a living hell throughout his entire life, or the main character just hates everyone pointlessly.  If your character has had a difficult life or has problems after getting the costume, at least make it seem realistic, not emo.

-The costumes should all be "creature costumes", so no venom suits, no humanoids.  The idea is that one of the limitations of the magic is that they need "living essence" that's based on some sort of creature, whether it is real or imaginary.  ;Plus, a human costume would be creepy D:

-There have been a lot of dragon stories already and as much as I love dragons I'd appreciate it if you choose a different/more unique creature to base your story around.  I won't stop you from using a dragon, I just wanted to point this out. (this also applies to other
overused creatures)

Note: I don't mind Dragon stories, as long as they are original. Thanks, Al.

-Sometimes, it is better if you create a unique character instead of just tfing yourself into your internet persona.

-Currently, Drethan is the only one who can make the costumes.  This could change in the future though.

-These are Halloween costumes, not latex fetish suits.  If they are rubbery, it is just so that they mimic skin.

-Despite what my pictures may suggest, the costumes usually can't turn into goo like venom from spider man.  They can become somewhat fluid(think silly puddy) and stretch to fit a person (or capture him), but only to a limited extent.

-A person CAN be costume tfed while wearing full clothing (plus, it is less creepy D: ), it just takes longer.

-Bonus (Awesome) points go to those who can find unique methods of having the tf happen (as opposed to having the costume just attack the guy as he's half way through putting it on, like I always seem to).  :D

-If there is something in your story that really bothers me, I won't add it to the list.  Good examples of this are stories were a person tfs and throws away his human life without a thinking about it or having a conflict, or stories where the only point is your character going on a murderous rampage.

Guest and Fan stories

A lot of people have been writing stories for my setting so here I've put together a giant list of all the costume tf stories that have been sent to me.  To say that I've been surprised by the huge interest in the setting is an understatement, thanks ^^.

Basically, there are two sections, the guest stories and the fan stories.  Guest stories are ones that follow the setting very well and don't interfere with the main plot, meaning that they 'could' have happened.  They might even get mentioned in the main plot at some time.  Fan stories are all the other stories that have been sent to me (I couldnt' think of a better word than fan, lol).  These are in the setting, but for one reason or another don't quite mesh with the current plot.  Of course, drawing the line between these two isn't an exact science, so please don't take offense if your story goes to one side or the other, I'm still quite thankful that you took the time to write in my crazy little world ^^

Btw, this doesn't mean that I'll list ALL stories that are submitted to me.  Anything that disturbs me, is nasty, or totally diverges from the setting won't get a link here at all.

Update: To preserve my sanity, I don't read all the stories that come up anymore, but I will continue listing any great ones that I read here.

--------------------------------------------
GUEST STORIES
--------------------------------------------

These are stories that follow the setting well enough that they "could have happened, or come pretty close".  Well, that doesn't mean they're an official part of the setting (SOME are), but generally they're so close that it doesn't matter. ^^
